Iowa troops penetrated Confederate lines at Railroad Redoubt. This monument commemorates this battle and the contributions of the many other Iowans present at Vicksburg. Some of the best sculptors of the time were engaged to create the metal, marble and granite gallery that is the Military Park. The bronze portions of this marker were created by the Roman Ironworks of New York. |
